Q1. Does Your Startup Make Business Sense?

Investors have seen hundreds or thousands of businesses - why is yours truly different? Is it a Product/Service, or the Business Model? Who are your Customers? Do you have Product/Market Fit? 

You need to explain your business, and in a way that Investors 'get it' right away?

​The #1 consideration investors care about is:
  • Does this business make sense?
  • Do I understand it?
  • Are there any red flags, or areas of concern?

Q2. Do You / Your Team Excite and Interest Me?

Investors know that investing in you - means working with you for 2, 5 or even 7+ years.  This means, they have to like you, and believe everyone can work well together. If the investor has any doubts about working with you, they will pass. That means - no money, no network, no referrals or advice.  

Your job is to persuade the investor that you are worth having conversations with, and s/he can help you grow.

Investor considerations include:

  • Is this in my area of expertise / investment thesis (i.e., wheelhouse?
  • Can I work with you / your team?
  • Are you coachable?
  • Do you take direction / are willing to pivot as necessary?

Q3. How Much $ Can I Make?

Most investors know it takes 5-7 years for a return on their investment. It is still Your Job to inform investors as to your business model and how (fast) you intend to make money. Informing your investors means doing so - when times are good, and times are bad - so they can help you grow and succeed.

Investor considerations are:
  • Does your investment offer a 10x or 100x ROI?
  • How much money do you need to get to the next stage?
  • How fast can I make money?
